The truth is your emotions and your empathic, feel-it-all-all-the-time nature are not meant to be mysterious forces that sweep you away from yourself. They are actually wise and profound guides, meant to return you too yourself.

Come spend 4 weeks with other tender spirits, exploring the gifts and challenges of living a deeply feeling life.

Part coaching group, part learning environment, we will explore: what exactly empathy is and how it works within you; how to understand the essential messages all of your emotions (even the uncomfortable or “negative” ones); and how to balance deep care for yourself with care of your loved ones and the world

of your experience,
without being swept away by it. 

 

All the books, and oracle cards, and tarot readings, and crystals are great. I love them. I use them. Often. All the coaches, and programs, and retreats, and spiritual healing are wonderful. I use these too. Often. They enrich me, and deepen my understanding of myself and my world. But at the root of everything, everything, everything, are our emotions. And, it wasn’t until I learned the language and purpose of my emotions themselves, and the way my empathy flows, could I truly nourish and strengthen the deepest parts of myself.

If we do not know how to work with our emotions, truly understand the vital, unique information each holds, all of the self help and personal growth becomes just more inner noise. Meanwhile, the emotions at the root of it all are left not being heard and responded to. We end up circling around the same issues over and over, and the emotions get stronger to get our attention. We fight against ourselves, missing what we most need.

This course is not about finding the right affirmation, or achieving perfectly balanced energy. It is not about catharsis or dredging up old trauma.It is not about changing how you feel, even though I understand we all want to sometimes. It is about learning to engage your emotions when, and as, they arise so that they can lead you to what you most need. It is about understanding how your empathy can adapt to the ever changing flow of life, so that you are sustained and nourished, rather than drained and overwhelmed. This is the deepest kind of self care.

Practical Feeling  is about practical skills, and practical awareness that will bring you intimately back home to yourself.

Here are the details:

Weekly online meetings. These will be held on Zoom conferencing, a simple online platform. Each week will include teaching and learning play on an essential part of healthy empathy and emotional flow. The group will be small, so there will be will be time for Q&A and spot coaching.

Worksheets and documents to support your learning and exploration. Each week’s lesson and materials will be be emailed to you each Monday. All you need to do is print out the worksheets and gather any supplies for the lesson (these are minimal, a journal or notebook, pen, pencil, colored markers or pencils if you like that kind of fun.) All of the lessons will be complied into a PDF notebook after the course to support you in your ongoing learning.

A secret Facebook group were we can gather, share, ask questions, talk to each other about the lessons. The group optional, but it is very helpful and fun to connect with others who are also deepening their empathic  and emotional understanding and skills. I’ll be hanging out here too, and I’ll have some set “office hours” so I can support you. Also, each of us will have our own space within the group to use as we wish. This is a space for you to journal, gather insights… This of it as a virtual sacred space for your empathy to express itself.

Here is what we will be covering:

Week One: What is Empathy? When you understand the aspects of empathy and how they flow, you can better adapt to your needs and environment, rather than being left wide open to the overwhelm of the world.

Week Two: The Message in Your Emotions. Each of your emotions have essential and specific information for you. Even the uncomfortable or “negative” ones. When you know how to listen, they become wise allies.

Week Three: Ask Your Emotions. Learn how to ask for the brilliance of each emotion, so you can receive their guidance, with out having to be swept away by them.

Week Four: Emotions and Self Care. You and your emotions are doing hard and valiant things all the time. Lean how to renew and rejuvenate in the way that best serves you, and your tender heart. Bonus, this is also the most healing and supportive thing you can do for those around too.

*You looking for ways to get rid of “negative” emotions. The truth is we need all of our emotions, even the uncomfortable ones. We will be exploring ways to integrate the wisdom of all of our emotions, not just the happy ones.

*Your emotions are causing you distress, or are cycling in ways that are disruptive. This is better supported in therapy or another professional setting. While I am skilled in the ways and purpose of emotions, I am not a therapist.

*You need a cathartic space to process your emotions. This is a course on emotions, so they will show up and are welcome! But, the focus will be on learning about the emotions, rather than digging into them for the purpose of clearing them.

About me, and why I want to share this with you.

If you know me (and here’s little peek if you don’t), you know I walk in the liminal spaces. I read Tarot cards. I am known for my intuitive and astute perception. I call myself a tender heretic.

What you might not know, is that a few years ago I became emotionally, empathically, burned out. So much so I nearly stopped doing my work and anything that required any amount of energy, especially emotional. I withdrew from all but the absolute necessities of life. After decades of taking in the energy of the people and the world around me, using my empathy like raw fuel to power through life, I just couldn’t anymore.

I didn’t know how to work with sensitivity and emotions in a way that didn’t overwhelm my nervous system.

I had been following the work of Karla McLaren, an emotions and empathy researcher, and the author of The Language of Emotions for many years and decided to take a deeper dive. It has been a game changer in how I relate to myself and my world. My burnout is healing (its a long journey as anyone who has been through it knows), and I am able to move though challenges much faster and with more grace. I have become a Licensed Dynamic Emotional Integration Trainer, the practical application of McLaren’s work, which really just means I have information and tools that will help you navigate your own empathic and emotional journey.

I’m still my spiritually minded, intuitive self, now with more emotional clarity and tools to help you develop your own emotional genius.
